Mangos, like many other fruits, can make a sweet treat for your canine companion. Safety first - important preparation steps before feeding mango to your dog include both peeling off the skin and removing the pit.

The skin can in theory be eaten, but is like a rawhide in that it is difficult for dogs to digest. The pit contains toxins that can make your dog sick and, if swallowed, can cause an obstruction in the intestines which will likely require emergency surgery to remove. Once these steps have been taken, mango can be fed fresh or frozen. They provide some vitamins, fiber and water. They do contain sugar, however, and should therefore only be fed in small quantities, and as a once-in-a-while snack.
